March
The spring safety seminar and annual general meeting had an excellent turnout of club members.

Student Ladi Horak completed his flight training and is now a licensed glider pilot.

2009
October
Great Lake's student and ornithopter pilot Todd Reichert successfully completed his first solo flights in both a glider and an ornithopter.

The world's first human powered ornithopter (an aircraft that flaps its wings like a bird and is powered only by human muscle) was built at the Great Lakes airfield by a team of aeronautical engineers from the University of Toronto. The ornithopter has become airborne multiple times and is presently undergoing further flight tests.

A public display of the human powered ornithopter took place on Saturday, October 24.

June
Students Brad Wood and Daniel Lodge completed their flight training and are now licensed glider pilots.

May

August
Student Daniel Lodge completed his first solo flight. Daniel started flying in the spring and demonstrates that dedication has its rewards!

Winter
GLGC ran its fifth ground school for students.


2007
September
Five sailplanes from GLGC, including one of our Krosno, flew in the Ontario provincial contest hosted by Toronto Soaring Club. In total, nine pilots (three individual competitors, two pilots on “team Rosebud” and three students in the Krosnos with our chief flying instructor) flew in the competition.

August
Another of our students had his first solo flight. This student started flying in the spring and demonstrates that dedication has its rewards!

A beautiful glider, a 1968 K6E, arrived at the field. GLGC now boasts being home to two K6 gliders.

July
One of our experienced pilots competed in the Canadian National Gliding contest in Hawkesbury, Ontario.

One of our students flew his first solo flight (and GLGC’s first solo flight of the year).

Winter
GLGC ran its fourth ground school for students.

Two more of our experienced members each flew more than 500 kilometers in a single flight (in Florida).

2006
Two of our experienced members each flew 500 kilometers in a single flight. They flew on consecutive days. These were GLGC’s first 500 kilometer flights and the first 500 kilometer “diamond” distance flights in Ontario since 1999.

Our chief flying instructor finished third in the sports class at the Canadian National Gliding contest in Rockton, Ontario.
