There's
a few solos going on here!!!! On the left is teen heart throb and debonair glider pilot, Jamie Kitchen. Having just landed after his first solo flight, Jamie was mobbed by the large crowd in the background. Really... they must have been standing behind the camera. Jamie was one of the easiest students to teach, he had a definite feel for the plane and was a "natural" stick and rudder pilot from the onset of his ab-initio training. |

Okay, well it wasn't that big a crowd, but it was celebrated by all, especially Jamie's better-half, Candice. Jamie was one of 4 pilots to solo that day.. it was like kicking all our chicks out of the nest at once. We didn't have to kick them very hard either. Most of our students soloed with 35 flights. The continuity of instructors and adherence to the SAC syllabus made it easy for the students to train with each of our 5 "interchangeable" instructors.

Left is Tim Ronan, the second generation of the Ronan clan to fly airplanes. Tim was easy to teach as well, and he too has grown up around airplanes. His dad, Mike, is an Air Canada 767 captain, and his mom, Cheryl, grew up with flying as her dad was a bush pilot and the backbone of Norcanair. (Incidentally, Mike flew Cheryl's dad's DeHavilland Beaver, CF-FHB, serial number 001. The Beaver is now on display in the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa. Ask Mike about his "That's my dent in the float, I did that!" story! |
