NOT ground beef!! Master-Chef Gerry did a phenominal job of barbequing the roast beef at the 2001 Great Lakes Barbeque. For a more flattering version of this story, see the article in Free Flight by the "Bald Eagle" (November 2001). Thanks to Gerry and the rest of the club members who prepared all the food and made the occasion memorable for all! Special thanks are due to Tim Ronan and his "hanger band" who delighted us with renditions of oldies. |

To the left was a thermal which picked up some straw in Uncle Al's neighbouring field and carried it aloft. The straw went upwards for over 100' in concentrated form. It was quite amazing to say the least. Looking downward that day one could see many fields with swaths cut through them from launching thermals.

One of our winter projects is
replacing the fabric panels on the wings of VCN. The original factory linen was starting
to feel a bit tired, so we made the decision to replace it rather than just patch it in
places. This is typical of our philosophy of maintenance and fleet pride. You certainly learn much once you peel the fabric away, a valuable lesson to any student or pilot regardless of their experience. The more you understand how something is put together, the easier it is to maintain it or recognize when something is amiss. If this doesn't work out, we're going to bolt legs to the wing and turn it into a picnic table. |
